Rethabile Khumalo in Hospital for Poisoning

Singer-songwriter Rethabile Khumalo is fighting for her life after allegedly being poisoned.

On Thursday, 27 June, songstress Winnie Khumalo shared on Instagram that her daughter had been poisoned by a “so-called friend.”

“It has been six days now in hospital. So I decided it’s only fair to share with her supporters the sad news,” her Instagram post reads.

“They did three operations on her already. We hope Rethabile will soon recover, but at the moment … She has been on and off. When you pray, please include her in your prayers.”

It is unclear what substance Rethabile was allegedly poisoned with, or the motive behind the poisoning.

Whatever the case, sources say that the “Uvalo” hitmaker is due to undergo a fourth operation, although this has not been confirmed by her family or representatives.

Fans and friends of Rethabile have flooded social media with messages of support and well-wishes, including a tweet from actor S’dumo Mtshali: “Get better soon, speedy recovery. God bless you.”
